Medical issues do not always happen during typical office hours. In human medicine, emergency rooms are staffed 24 hours a day to handle immediate medical care needs. In veterinary medicine, veterinarians are required to provide access to emergency veterinary care for their clients. Veterinarians may provide this emergency care themselves. Others may team with different veterinarians to divide the work load. Lastly, many will simply refer all after hour emergencies to area emergency clinics. At our hospital, we feel that providing personal and convenient care is important in providing continuity of care for our existing patients and clients. After hours, our answering service instructs clients to call Dr. Will at his home or on his cellular phone. In this way, he is available for our existing clients and can provide for more than 90% of our existing patient's emergency needs. Because he is only one person, and cannot be available 100% of the time, 365 days a year, we refer a few patients to the local emergency clinic. We define an emergency two ways: 1. An emergency is present when the life of a patient is at risk. 2. Also, an emergency is present when a client feels the situation is an emergency. Your pet is important to us. If your pet needs care, we prefer to assist your pet during normal office hours. If after hours care is needed, Dr. Will will do his best to fulfill that need personally. Normal emergency fees apply to services provided by Dr. Will or at the Greater Buffalo Veterinary Emergency Clinic.
